  Revival of Classicism - Globally

Find out what our Trend Directors around the world are saying about the REVIVAL OF CLASSICISM and how it relates to their city:

United States
Renee Labbe, VP Global Trends - Los Angeles

PREP, REVISITED: The prep-hop spirit of the ’90s - those days of Ralph and Tommy - is once again present, yet translated in slimmer silhouettes that still feel relaxed but have a rugged edge. Accessories from American brands seem to be adopting the look first. Stussy headwear for Fall 2009 and Vans’ Elms (available in suede, canvas or a mix of the two) both showcase preppy colors in a distinctly modern silhouette. For fall, Band of Outsiders for Sperry Top-Sider footwear offers a reconstructed penny loafer and 3-eye boat shoe in burgundy and heather grey.

LIFE OF LEISURE: A fresh new look is starting to appear on the streets here among very stylish young men, which suggests a desire for savvy, preppy dressing reminiscent of a ’90s nautical spirit.

Streamlined and simplified retro polos are being paired with slim shorts derived from traditional suit pants. Basics are reworked to either look brand new, refreshed by colorful nylon sheens, or faded as if they have been drying in the sun. The traveler bag and boat shoe are key accessories to have to fully embark on this new urban spirit.

India
Suna Hasan, Trend Director - India

A WHOLE NEW BALLGAME: The apparel market in India often varies dramatically from the rest of the world, and activewear is no exception. Recently, the Indian Premiere League of cricket was formed and has burst into a new phenomenon. As some of Bollywood’s biggest stars have begun buying into team franchises, a hipper and younger audience is beginning to swarm. The classic badges and crests and collegiate color palettes of the team uniforms are synonymous with energy, spirit and a new India.

South America
Fernanda Pigatto, Trend Director - Latin America

The spirit of the ’90s is slowly becoming evident in South America. Brazilian lifestyle brand Osklen applies their vanguard blend of surf-meets-skate-meets-fashion to graphics that are very simple and minimal, yet still strong. You can also feel the same simplicity embraced in the subdued and neutral color palettes and within the visual merchandising of their stores, where you find a perfect translation of the new, cool Brazilian soul.
